About Us

Located in Augusta, Ga. since 1982, Bob's Tropical Fish is the largest independent aquarium store and water garden center in the Southeastern United States. What started as a literal hole in the wall shop on Washington Road 27 years now draws thousands customers from all over Georgia and South Carolina and continues to build its reputation as "the ultimate tropical fish and water garden destination."

Bob Hockman and his wife Patricia opened the original Bob's Tropical Fish in a tiny 950 square foot store on Washington Road in 1982. Ten years later, Bob expanded the store to 2,800 square feet when he moved into another suite in the same strip center. Within no time, Bob's store was again bursting at the seams and he knocked out a wall and added another 2,000 feet in 2000. Despite a complete remodel of the center soon after that, the space on Washington Road soon proved too small again, and Bob started planning his new facility.

After searching for months, Bob and Patricia selected a highly visible lot at the corner of Old Petersburg Rd. and Baston Rd. at the end of Riverwatch Parkway in Martinez. The new store was designed and built from the ground up as the ultimate tropical fish and water garden center with wide aisles, carefully designed lighting and state-of-the-art filtration to assure the health and quality of the soon-to-be-expanded inventory. Construction soon commenced and the new 5,400 square foot store opened in 2007.

This beautiful new facility was designed for the comfort and convenience of Bob’s customer and the thousands of tropical, saltwater and pond fish that call Bob’s home. From the moment you pull into the beautifully landscaped parking area you’ll know you’ve found a special place with enhanced lighting, a huge live fish selection, wide aisles, convenient new fixtures and displays and a beautiful new pond and water garden section.
